Museum Sarajevo was founded on 1949 with the task to collect, studies, protects and presents social, economic and cultural history of Sarajevo from the oldest times until today.
The first and original location where the museum was placed was the City hall building. On 1954 a new building was given to the museum and it was the building of former school of the law near Baščaršija and it was there until 1993. On 1993 the building was given to the original owner to be used as a College of Islamic science and the museum and its items were placed in the building of Old temple. There were some indications that the building of Brusa bezistan might be given to the museum and there are no signs for getting a special building for entire museum.
During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina 1992- 1995 all items, thanks to the employees, were saved and transported into the Old temple. Parts of Museum Sarajevo are: Sarajevo 1878- 1918, Jewish museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Svrzo's house, Despića house.
